A large part of plant community ecology focuses on how different factors influence the structure of plant communities. My research focuses on understanding the mechanisms responsible for these changes, with emphasis on improving our understanding of the relative roles of competition, pollination, and mycorrhizae. I am currently focusing on ways to improve our understanding of invasion dynamics by looking at the functional and phylogenetic structure of the community in relation to dark diversity and the regional species pool. However, I still have a keen interest in continuing work aimed at understanding what causes variation in the importance of competition within plant communities, how mycorrhiza affect plant coexistence and community assembly by altering how plants respond to their environment, and the relative importance of pollination in long-term plant community dynamics.
