DarkDivNet2019 workshop

November 20 - 23, 2019
Tartu, Estonia

We had a very successful DarkDivNet2019 workshop, thank you to all the participants!

November is the darkest time in Estonia, so it is ideal to discuss dark diversity topics. All DarkDivNet current and potential participants are welcome. In addition to talks by the invited speakers, we plan both oral and poster presentations by the participants.

Confirmed invited speakers

  • Jon Bennett (University of Saskatchewan, Canada)
Using dark diversity to better understand and predict invasion
  • Carlos Carmona (University of Tartu, Estonia)
    The first results of DarkDivNet
  • Milan Chytrý (Masaryk University, Czech Republic)
Fine-scale patterns of vegetation diversity across Europe: analyses of the European Vegetation Archive
  • Francesco de Bello (CIDE-CSIC, Spain)
Which dark diversity? How methodological choices can impact the type of absent species detected for a community
  • Ove Eriksson (Stockholm University, Sweden)
Development and dynamics of species pools in Scandinavian semi-natural grasslands
  • Els Heinsalu (National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics, Estonia)
The role of clustering and dispersal in survival success and in the emerging diversity
  • Aveliina Helm (University of Tartu, Estonia)
Dark diversity in restoration and conservation: potential and applications
  • Rob Lewis (Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research, Norway)
Can dark diversity improve the ecological realism of Species Distribution Models?
  • Miriam Muñoz-Rojas (University of New South Wales, Australia)
SOIL DarkDivNet: linking degradation and biodiversity loss to soil microbial functioning and carbon dynamics (Skype talk)
  • Maarja Öpik (University of Tartu, Estonia)
DNA-based diversity of soil fungi: hidden, but important
  • Meelis Pärtel (University of Tartu, Estonia)
Dark diversity - from a concept to a global network
