Karl Hendrik Tamkivi

PhD student

I am interested in how biodiversity patterns vary across different spatial scales and across different branches of the entire tree of life. In my PhD studies I focus on the uncertainty principles within the dark diversity and functional diversity paradigms. My deeper interest in statistical modelling, simulation experiments and novel visualisation techniques originates from a background spanning both biology and data science. Since I have also spent a few years working as a machine learning engineer in the domain of satellite remote sensing, I also happen to have a sympathy towards deep neural networks, software design and cloud computing. My PhD supervisors are Meelis Pärtel and Carlos Carmona.
