This year the International Association for Vegetation Science (IAVS) Annual Symposium 2024 took place in Funchal, in Madeira Island, Portugal, from the 16th to the 20th of September 2024. The theme of the Symposium was 'From local to global: vegetation patterns across spatial scales in a changing World'. Many people from our workgroup participated in the conference. Meelis, Riin, Juni and Carlos held a special session about Dark Diversity where they talked about the results from DarkDivNet. Also Bruno had a poster about alien species and dark diversity. Enrico and Eleonora were included in the 'Ecoinformatics and Models in Vegetation Science' session where they presented results about plant functional traits. Diego and Slendy presented their findings in the 'Future Ecosystems Climate and Land Change' session - Diego had a talk about community stability and Slendy had a poster about the effect of drought on plants. Also Ene took part in the conference. It was great to hear so many great talks and poster presentations about new and exciting findings, and to see old friends and meet new colleagues from all over the world!
