Tartu – City of Good Microbes

This summer we will start a project "Tartu - City of Good Microbes" to study soil biodiversity in Tartu. The project is led by Meelis in collaboration with the Center of Excellence EcolChange. Microorganisms play an important role in supporting humans’ mental and physical health, but it is still unknown what is the state of soil microbes in urban areas where most people live. We plan to collect samples from parks, gardens, yards of schools and kindergartens, sports grounds, and other green spaces in Tartu. We will also collaborate with paediatricians of Tartu University Hospital, to study the impact of the environment on childhood allergies and immune system. Read more here.
