Macroecology workgroup

The Macroecology workgroup at the University of Tartu, led by Professor Meelis Pärtel focuses on the biological diversity of plants. Our work is driven by the need to improve and deepen knowledge of biodiversity patterns at various scales. More specifically, we focus on the absent part of diversity i.e. dark diversity that encompasses absent species in a region that can have the potential to inhabit a local habitat. We study the dark diversity on the levels of taxonomic, phylogenetic, functional and genetic diversity; identify processes that produce observed and dark diversity; elaborate methods to quantify dark diversity, and provide practical tools for biodiversity conservation and invasive species control. Have a look at the Macroecology workgroup MAP of past and future meetings and field work sites!
